Camp Crashing: The New Term for Using Your Friend’s RV Site to Cook Up a Scrumptious Lunch!

What to do when the RV has sold but you still want to get out and enjoy the magnificent spring weather in the Pacific Northwest? We weren’t sure what to call this new pastime and began brainstorming ideas as we packed the truck for the two hour drive south to Cape Disappointment State Park. Our friends were already set up at camp having secured two sites online months in advance. It’s not easy finding RV sites in the late spring and early summer in Washington State as our area has become a hotspot for travelers in recent years. In fact, the biggest attractions to the area, Olympic National Park and Mt. Rainier National Park, near the top of the most visited National Parks in the country, and for very good reason. Our climate is mild, we generally don’t encounter extreme heat or cold, and for that reason the season for exploration is literally year round. Summer and fall bring gorgeous weather and beautiful colors to the landscape that tease your senses and relax anyone willing to just get outside and take a moment to breathe!

Enter in our adventure. We headed south from Olympia in the late morning and arrived at Cape Disappointment State Park before noon to explore the area, hike the trails, and meet our friends. This park is GORGEOUS and an amazing place to investigate with the variety of landscapes from windswept beaches, sheer cliffs, and deep green hued forests. The trails are easily accessible and a good mode of transportation to see it all is via bicycle. The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center is informative and a fun place to visit to learn the history of the area and with a very active Coast Guard Base in the park, you’re more than likely going to see our Coasties in action practicing rescue operations via either boat and/or helicopter.

After working up an appetite on the trails it was time to….well we weren’t sure what to call it. Check out our video below for a view of the park and our camp catering exploits! You can find the written recipe in our recipe section of the website. Enjoy!
